2011 Board Chair: The future is bright and opportunities are limitlessJanuary 01, 2011By Keith Brinson
Forty years ago, the Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce made a commitment to continuous improvement of the quality of life for all in our communities. Under the keen and insightful leadership of Graham Neville, the Chamber launched the very first collaborative effort between the two towns that charted the course of prosperity and growth which still guides us today.
As a 13-year agent for Johnston County Farm Bureau Insurance and this year’s Board of Directors Chairman, I am enthusiastic about accepting the baton and working with a dynamic board of directors.
In our community we are fortunate to have the level of qualified leaders that we do. They are engaged not only as Board members, but as committee participants as well. We begin 2011 with optimism and enthusiasm for the new accomplishments we will achieve this year. Our emphasis will be on finding more and better ways to serve our membership, identifying ways to diversify income beyond dues revenue and fundraisers, and expanding our work to build bridges of collaboration among all of the communities of Johnston County.
The Chamber affords a variety of opportunities for involvement, including the Ambassador, Membership, Chamber Women’s Business Network, Economic Development, and Education committees. As a result of the Chamber’s recent membership event held in December, 125 new business alliances were formed, expanding the agency’s reach in the community.
As part of our ongoing effort to grow and become more successful, we remind you to look for and acknowledge the Chamber plaque as you visit member businesses. Practicing this small measure of appreciation will serve our Chamber and our businesses well. The future is bright and the opportunities are limitless for another forty years of Smithfield-Selma Chamber of Commerce leadership.”
