Smithfield, N.C. --  The Junior Women's League of Smithfield (JWL) is excited to announce that we are currently accepting applications for new members for the 2019-2020 league year.

JWL members have completed over 7,600 hours of service in Johnston County and raised $71,000 for league supported programs since the League was founded in 2016.  Women who are at least 22 years old and interested in serving Johnston County through volunteering are encouraged to apply to join the League.

“JWL members are some of the most passionate and giving women that I’ve ever met,” stated Laura Hill, VP of Membership.  “When you look at everything our membership has accomplished since the League was founded, it’s all possible because our members work together for the good of the League and our county.  These women are constantly raising the bar, and then pushing it even higher.”

Potential applicants are encouraged to attend one of two upcoming New Member Interest Meetings in order to learn about the League and the ways it serves Johnston County, meet the Board of Directors and current members, and learn about the membership process.  The New Member Interest Meetings will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, July 11 at Simple Twist Taproom & Bottle Shop, located at 228 E. Market Street in Smithfield, and Monday, July 15 at Boulevard West, located at 104 W. Main Street in Clayton.  At these interest meetings, we will be collecting school supplies to be donated to My Kid’s Club, and anyone who brings school supplies will be entered to win $10 off their membership dues.

Additional information and applications are available at www.jwlsmithfield.com.  Prospective members can apply for a scholarship if the costs involved with being a member of the Junior Women’s League of Smithfield are a deterrent; scholarship recipients will be relieved of their financial obligations for the 2019-2020 service year; the scholarship application deadline is July 19.   The membership application deadline for the 2019-2020 league year is August 1, 2019.
