Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action has moved into new headquarters and celebrated Thursday with a grand opening and ribbon cutting. The new 10,000 square foot building at 1102 Massey Street in Smithfield cost $1.5 million and houses 39 employees. The agency oversees the Johnston County Head Start Program and also helps with community development block grants, weatherization, housing and other services for low income families.

For 50 years, Johnston-Lee-Harnett Community Action has promoted self-sufficiency through its services and has embarked on a name rights program for its new building. Proceeds will be used to repay the construction loan provided by the North Carolina Rural Center.
