SSS seniors awarded FFA Cargill Community ScholarshipsMay 29, 2012
The National Future Farmers of America (FFA) Organization awarded a $1,000 Cargill Community scholarship to Smithfield-Selma High School senior and FFA member Breanna Williams. Cargill, as a special project of the National FFA Foundation, sponsors the scholarship. Breanna plans to use these funds to pursue a degree in agriculture education at North Carolina State University in the fall.
Breanna’s scholarship is one of 1,539 awarded through the National FFA Scholarship Program this year. Scholarship recipients were selected from 8.050 applicants from across the country. Selections were based on the applicant’s academic record, FFA and other school/community activities, supervised agricultural experience (SAE) in agricultural education, and future goals. Cargill also gave $200 to the Smithfield-Selma High School’s library media program as an added bonus.
Senior FFA member Heather Mills was awarded a $250 scholarship from the SSS FFA chapter. Members of SSS FFA voted on the recipient for this scholarship based on the recipient’s participation, leadership, and general enthusiasm in the FFA program, proving that Heather stands out as a positive leader among her peers. Heather will use these funds as she attends Johnston Community College in the fall. She plans to transfer into North Carolina State University to study to become a veterinarian.
