On February 11th, 2019, the Triangle East Chamber of Commerce hosted Semester
Superstars at the Sleep Inn and Suites in Smithfield, NC. This celebration is
held bi-annually, respectively honoring middle/high school and elementary
school teachers. The Triangle East Chamber’s Education Committee invites area principals
to nominate a teacher that has shown initiative, dedication to their students, and commitment to the work of education.
Local business leaders, representatives from the Johnston County Public School Board, Neuse Charter School, and community members gathered to celebrate the selected middle and high school teachers. Each principal shared the special qualities of their nominee, giving examples of their willingness to go above and beyond what is required to invest in their students and in their school.
Seven teachers were honored and presented with the Semester Superstars award, along with gifts and monetary awards generously donated by area businesses. The 2019 Middle/High School Semester Superstars are (from left to right, as pictured):  Kalicia Gurley (Neuse Charter School), Becky Worley (Career and Technical Leadership Academy), Randy Parker (Innovation Academy at South Campus), Haley Darden (Princeton Middle High School), Nicole Stevens (Selma Middle School), Sarah Anderson (Smithfield Middle School), and Tarsha Johnson (Smithfield-Selma High).
