Wilson's Mills Elementary kindergarteners receive a storybook welcomeSeptember 19, 2013
Wilson's Mills Elementary School recently provided a special storybook welcome to its new 2013-2014 kindergarten class.
By incorporating parts of the classic Gingerbread Man tale, the school was able to give its new students a very memorable first day.
As the newest members of the Wilson's Mills family, they were given a guided tour of the school that had them looking for the “Gingerbread Man” in all the places that they needed to become familiar with, such as the Art, Music, and Technology rooms.
Signs were displayed throughout the school with the text “Run run as fast as you can. You can't catch me. I'm in the...office, cafeteria, library, etc.” The signs created a scavenger-hunt for the students and also helped provide an introduction into literacy.
The event spanned two days with half of the kindergartners participating on September 5 and the other half on September 6. Their adventure concluded in the school's media center, where they enjoyed traditional Gingerbread Man cookies and a Gingerbread Man themed story about friendship.
